What he's known for
By the late 1980s, many of the temples participating in the Thrissur Pooram festival had drifted into decline — some reduced to token, non-participating status, others nearly extinct. K.R.C. Menon conceived the idea of bringing all the participating Poorams under one common organizing body, and in 1988 helped form the Thrissur Pooram Ekopana Samithy to carry that out.
As its founder Secretary, he is credited with reviving several ailing or nearly extinct constituent Poorams largely through his own individual effort, fought a prolonged legal dispute with the Thrissur Pooram Exhibition Committee on the Samithy's behalf, and secured a significant grant from the Kerala Tourism Department to support the festival's constituent temples.
Legacy
He passed away on 2 July 2008. In his honor, the Thrissur Pooram Ekopana Samithy established the K.R.C. Menon Memorial Award, presented annually to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Thrissur Pooram tradition.
